Job Description
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, 12-month position. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in kinesiology/biomechanics, and an active research program in musculoskeletal research in biomechanics. Other areas of teaching and research expertise will be considered that include but are not limited to: physiology/pathophysiology, orthopedics, injury epidemiology, genetics, and predictive analytics. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching, research, student research mentoring, student advisement, and university and professional service. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and scholarly productivity on a tenure track.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • To be considered for the assistant professor position:
    • Earned PhD
    • University teaching experience
    • Evidence of peer reviewed publications and discipline specific research expertise
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • To be considered for an associate professor position:
    • Earned PhD
    • Evidence of university academic teaching experience and content expertise
    • Evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications and discipline specific research expertise
    • consistent with rank
    • Evidence of extramural funding to support an established area of research
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • DPT degree and PhD
  • Postdoctoral training in Kinesiology/Biomechanics or a closely related field. Eligible for licensure in the state of Tennessee
  • 3- 5 years academic teaching and research experience at a Carnegie classified R1 research institution
  • Extramurally funded research program in biomechanics, (other areas of funded research could include but are not limited to physiology/pathophysiology, cancer rehabilitation, or sports injuries)
  • Research mentoring of DPT and/or PhD students
